Tower Clocks with Keith Scobie-Youngs

We are privileged to have a presentation by Keith Scobie-Youngs a renowned expert in the field of turret clocks. Keith graduated in Horology from the School of Jewellery and Silversmithing and worked at Public Clocks in London. He established the Cumbria Clock Company over thirty years ago. This has been highly successful and, with the assistance of other horologists, he maintains over 1,400 church and public clocks. Keith has worked on the clock at Salisbury Cathedral, the Astronomical Clock at Hampton Court Palace and the Westminster Clock, better known as Big Ben. He was sometime Master of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers, is a Council Member of the Antiquarian Horological Society and also a Fellow of the British Horological Institute.

The clock above is signed Lewes Pridham, Sandford Fecit and dates from 1708.

This wide-ranging talk will demonstrate how clever machines produced beautiful music before the phonograph was invented.  It will also suggest the most satisfying types to acquire, depending on one’s budget.
